History
cunabear (born in Richmond, VA) is a jack of all creative trades.
Prior to picking up the mic as an emcee, cuna has spent many years in various creative fields; a painter, an illustrator, a muralist, a guitarist/bassist/vocalist for various bands ranging in styles from funk to deathmetal.
Coincidentally, since becoming an emcee that list has grown to include a producer & engineer, a music-video director, filmer, & editor, an event-host, a promoter & booking agent, a resident DJ, a website builder, a festival organizer, a zine-creator, and more.
But truly, it's cunabear's rhymes that standout above the rest of his many talents.
cunabear’s music is a powerful fusion of jazzy underground hip hop styles with energetic & unique flows, psychedelic atmosphere, and conceptual lyrical content surrounding psychology, sociology, and existentialist thoughts.
Since 2014 he's been carving a very special path through the landscape of Hip Hop, and has shared the stage with many different underground rappers (such as Allen Thomas, Dope KNife, Height Keech, MACHINEGIRL, Jade Koth, Miggs The Artist, Jonathan Brown, McKinley Dixon, ELUCID, Brainorchestra, Uncommon Nasa, & Skech185).
Cunabear's visual art is the glue that ties his creative worlds together. As a graphic designer & illustrator he's produced paintings, album art, & tour posters for many artists (including works spanning throughout many projects of his own), as well as created merch by hand with his DIY-work-ethic strongly on display; tie-dying & hand-painting everything from shirts and hoodies to tote bags and hats!
cunabear is currently based in Savannah, GA, where he runs the BearTooth Collective (formed in 2010 & featuring frequent collaborators Lady Valore, Signature, Virgil Wolfe, & Jouquin Fox, amongst others), which is a multi-genre DIY music and artwork collective that focuses on building a community for artists & musicians of all kinds around the world, assisting artists with networking, the creation of merch, promotion of album releases and tours, as well as sharing live shows & events that are local to the Savannah area.
